Want breathtaking mountains, limitless vineyards and rustic olive groves all in one day? You’re right, there are many places around the world where you can get that. But none are as charming as Mendoza, Argentina. You are probably thinking to yourself, “where have I heard that name before?” If you’ve ever held a bottle of good Malbec, it is probably from this very Argentinian province.
After spending a little over a month in Buenos Aires, a week out in Mendoza was the perfect escape. But don’t get me wrong, we still had school – only it was of a different kind – visiting local health centers, touring hospitals and working in the ER, learning about the Argentinian health systems and touring with the health agents to different houses in rural areas was all part of our really busy week. That didn’t mean that we didn’t get to have some fun too…. We eat at classy restaraunts. Visited the famous ferrias. And who could forget the wine tastings? Unfortunately, the one weekend we were here it poured mountains of buckets, and we had to sacrifice many of the AMAZING activities that we had planned (horseback riding, hiking, rafting, you get the drift). Luckily, we ended up stealing some last minute spots on a $20 wine tour that ended up lasting a good 3-4 hours.
